US Imposes Stricter Emissions Standards on Trucks and Buses

U.S. trucks and buses must meet stricter emissions standards from 2027, the environmental agency EPA reported Monday.

 

There will be new standards for how much nitrogen new, heavy vehicles are allowed to emit from that year. By 2030, new standards for other greenhouse gases will also be imposed.

In addition, the US government is releasing 1.4 billion dollars for new electric buses, Vice President Kamala Harris announced.

According to the EPA, the new standards will contribute to better public health because nitrogen gases are bad for health.

For example, cleaner, heavy vehicles would lead to 2100 fewer premature deaths, 18,000 fewer childhood asthma cases and 3.1 million fewer patients with asthma symptoms. 72 million people live on roads with heavy truck traffic in the US.
