Dictator Kim’s Sister: US Has Wrong Expectations About Dialogue

The sister and confidant of North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un said the United States has “false” expectations about a dialogue with North Korea.

According to the South Korean news agency Yonhap, experts think that Kim Yo-jong is sending a signal that Washington should make it more attractive for the North Koreans to start negotiating their nuclear weapons again.

The US is deeply concerned about the weapons programs of the North Koreans, which have tested missiles that can reach parts of the US mainland. Former US President Donald Trump himself spoke about this repeatedly with dictator Kim, who in turn wants the heavy sanctions against his regime to be lifted. The consultations did not lead to a breakthrough, and the talks have been on hold for some time now.

Last week, the North Korean leader said that preparations must be made for both a “dialogue and confrontation” with Washington. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called the remark an “interesting signal” and said the US would wait for North Koreans to contact them again to discuss how to proceed with negotiations between the countries.

That reaction seems to have gone badly in Pyongyang. Dictator’s sister Kim Yo-jong said in an official statement that Americans seem guilty of wishful thinking and misinterpret her brother’s statements. She predicted that the US would be heading for a major disappointment as a result.
