Curaçao Extends Corona Measures Due to an Increase in Infections

On Monday, the government of Curaçao extended the corona measures introduced on January 7 for ten days for the same period. This is a result of the increasing number of infections.

Curaçao had 11,965 active infections on Monday. There are 53 corona patients in the hospital, thirteen of which are in intensive care (IC). Ten days earlier, that was 7567 infections, and 23 patients were in the hospital, six of which were in IC. Fourteen corona patients have died in ten days.

Due to the rising numbers, the curfew, which now goes into effect at 10 p.m., will be extended until January 28. All shops and entertainment venues must close by 9 p.m. at the latest. Event permits have been revoked during this period.

The government asks people to stay at home as much as possible and to avoid groups. However, the schools in Curaçao did open again on Monday after four weeks. According to the government, some students have already fallen behind a lot due to all the corona measures. Therefore, it is not responsible for keeping the educational institutions closed any longer.
