Ukraine’s Sumi Region Leader: Russia Withdraws from Area

The Russian army has begun a withdrawal from the Sumi region of northeastern Ukraine, local authorities report.

Still, according to Dmitri Zhivitsky, the Ukrainian head of the regional administration, it is too early to say that the area has actually been liberated. He said this according to the Ukrainian news agency UNIAN.

Zhivitsky said many Russian troops had been spotted in the region over the past week and that many attacks on civilians had taken place. In addition, Russian military vehicles are said to have been returned to Russia via a corridor from Kyiv and Chernihiv.

He said that many destroyed Russian tanks and other broken military equipment would now be seen in the area.
