More than 200 people have been injured in a collision between two light rail trains in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur.

47 passengers are said to have suffered severe injuries, local media report.

Malaysian Transport Minister Wee Ka Siong said one of the trains was on a test run when it collided underground with the other train with 238 passengers on board.

213 occupants were injured. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin has ordered an investigation into the accident.

Wee said the crash was the first since the light rail system went into operation in 1998.

However, there have been several minor accidents in recent years, including the derailment of carriages. A number of passengers were slightly injured.
