Shanghai Extends Lockdown Indefinitely

The Chinese city of Shanghai has extended the lockdown for its 26 million inhabitants indefinitely. A new corona wave is underway in China.

On Tuesday, authorities in Beijing reported 16,000 new corona infections.

Anyone who becomes infected with the virus in China must go to a quarantine centre. In Shanghai, such centres have been set up in gyms and event centres, for example, but they are almost completely full.

The city has reported more than 70,000 new corona cases since the beginning of March.
