Corona Vaccines Moderna in Japan Maybe Contaminated with Metal Powder
Corona vaccines from the American pharmaceutical company Moderna in Japan may have been contaminated with a metal powder.
The Japanese broadcaster NHK reports based on sources within the Ministry of Health that a particulate matter in the contaminated vaccines reacts to a magnet, indicating a metal substance in the vaccines.
Japan recalled more than 1.6 million doses of Moderna vaccines on Thursday after reports of “strange matter” contamination.
Moderna told Reuters it is aware of the issue and is investigating. The pollution is said to be related to a production line at a factory in Spain. However, according to Moderna, the matter does not affect the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.
The Ministry of Health will try to minimize the consequences of the Japanese vaccination campaign.
