Evacuation Buses Again Departed From Mariupol

Evacuation buses have again departed from Mariupol, the governor of the Donetsk region has announced. The convoy heads for the Ukrainian-controlled city of Zaporizhzhya.

Ukraine cooperates with the United Nations and the Red Cross in the evacuation attempt. Governor Pavlo Kirilenko did not share further details. For example, it is not known how many buses are involved.

It is also unclear whether more civilians have been evacuated from the Azovstal steel plant, the last Ukrainian stronghold of resistance in Mariupol. About a hundred people who were taken from the industrial estate last weekend arrived in Zaporizhzhya on Tuesday with a day’s delay.

The mayor of Mariupol said on Tuesday that about 200 civilians are still trapped in the underground facilities of Azovstal; in the city, there are still about 100,000 civilians. According to Ukrainian sources, the steel factory was again stormed by Russian troops on Wednesday morning.
