Millions of People Without Power in New Orleans and the Surrounding Area
As a result of the slow passing of Hurricane Ida, the power in the American city of New Orleans and the surrounding area has been completely cut. As a result, at least a million people are without electricity.
The responsible energy company Entergy New Orleans speaks of ” catastrophic damage to the transmission”.
All eight electricity supply lines to the region are out of order. The company is “looking at a way to restore power to those who can.”
It is not a first for the city and the electricity company, local media report. During Hurricane Gustav in 2008, the power also almost completely went out in the region.
At the time, this led to fierce criticism of society and the poor state of the network.
