Ukraine: More Than 50,000 Russian Soldiers Killed
The Russian army has lost more than 50,000 soldiers in more than six months of the war in Ukraine, the Ukrainian army staff has calculated. In 195 days of fighting, 50,150 Russian soldiers are said to have died.
The British Ministry of Defense estimates about 25,000. Russia has not provided figures on its own casualties for a long time. However, the pro-Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine did come up with an estimate late last week. They say they have lost more than 2,900 men since the start of the invasion.
Kyiv is not very communicative about the losses on the Ukrainian side. However, according to the latest statement, about 9,000 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, and 7,000 were missing.
The United Nations has so far recorded more than 5,700 civilian deaths but, like Kyiv, expects the number to be much higher. The separatists recently reported about 870 civilian deaths in their area.
The leadership of the Ukrainian army also released figures on the material losses of the opponent. The Russian army is said to have disabled 2,077 tanks, 4,484 armoured vehicles, 236 aircraft and 207 helicopters. However, this claim cannot be independently verified.
