US Offers Ukraine Guarantees Worth 1 Billion

The United States has offered Ukraine a guarantee of up to 1 billion dollars, foreign minister Antony Blinken said in a statement. The guarantee should make it easier for Ukraine to take out loans.

“This offer will enhance Ukraine’s potential for economic stability, growth and prosperity for its citizens, in light of Russia’s disruptive behaviour.”

Between 2014 and 2016, the US has already issued guarantees of USD 1 billion each to Ukraine three times. “These guarantees were crucial in the previous period when Russia acted aggressively for Ukraine to successfully stabilize the economy,” said Blinken.

In 2014, Russia annexed the Ukrainian peninsula Crimea, and since that year, Russia has supported separatists in eastern Ukraine.
