Ericsson Also Signs Out for Mobile World Congress in Barcelona

After the South Korean LG, the Swedish Ericsson has also cancelled the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the largest smartphone congress in the world.

 

That will be held later this month. Ericsson says it cannot guarantee the safety of its employees and customers due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus.

According to Ericsson, the organisers have done everything to minimise the risk. “As one of the chief exhibitors, Ericsson has thousands of visitors every day in the conference room.

Even if the risk is small, we cannot guarantee the health and safety of our employees and visitors. ”If Ericsson stays away, a space as ample as a football field on the conference floor will remain empty.

Competitor Nokia from Finland is still planning to go to Barcelona, but that is not entirely certain. The Chinese ZTE goes to Barcelona, but on a smaller scale. British BT is still thinking. The Chinese Huawei is coming as planned.

The Mobile World Congress itself will continue, according to the mayor of Barcelona. The congress attracts more than 100,000 visitors every year. The congress is significant for large companies.

For example, last year the Chinese Huawei in Barcelona unveiled its first foldable phone, the Mate X. This year the congress will focus on 5G internet, artificial intelligence, smart devices and big data.
