Chinese authorities have started spraying disinfectants in Xi’an to fight a corona outbreak. China reported 162 new infections on Monday, 150 identified in Xi’an. The city of 13 million inhabitants went into a strict lockdown last week.

Authorities ask people to keep their windows closed and not touch surfaces of buildings or plants on the street. Last week, before the lockdown went into effect, Xi’an began testing all residents.

China fears that infections will go unnoticed so that the virus could eventually appear in more places in the country. The government hopes to contain the outbreak before the Winter Olympics start in February in Beijing.

China has a strict corona policy. Outbreaks are controlled with local lockdowns and mass testing of residents.
