Special Security Adviser in the Run-Up to Biden’s Inauguration

Future US President Joe Biden has appointed a special security adviser to ensure the days leading up to his inauguration next week run smoothly.

The temporary counsellor is Lisa Monaco, who becomes Deputy Minister of Justice under Biden.

Monaco served as a counter-terrorism adviser under former President Obama.

Over the next few days, she will be working with the new National Security Advisor, the new Homeland Security Adviser, and current security and law enforcement officials, including the US Secret Service.

Given the existing threats, Monaco’s temporary role will focus solely on the period up to the inauguration, a spokeswoman said. To this end, she interrupts preparations for her future task.
