Tens of Thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip Have Fled Violence

Some 42,000 Palestinians have fled their homes in the Gaza Strip due to ongoing Israeli airstrikes. This is reported by UNRWA, a UN organization that helps Palestinian refugees.

It has opened about fifty schools to receive refugees.

Militant Palestinians fired thousands of rockets at Israel from the Gaza Strip in the past week. That country responds by conducting large-scale airstrikes against targets in the densely populated area on the coast. It involved dozens of bombings in the night from Sunday to Monday.

The United Nations says some 2,500 people have become homeless because their homes have been destroyed. UNRWA CEO Philippe Lazzarini was discouraged on Twitter about the situation in Gaza on Sunday. He said Covid-19 and famine already plagued residents before the bombings.

The battle has already claimed the lives of more than 200 people. The authorities in the Gaza Strip are talking about 197 deaths, including 58 children. Ten deaths have been reported in Israel. Many people were also injured on both sides of the border.
