US President Donald Trump has threatened to freeze World Health Organization (WHO) funding on Monday unless “substantial improvements” are made within the next 30 days.
Washington suspended WHO funding in mid-April because it believes China has too much influence within the organization.
The WHO lost its largest lender by the decision. The US accounted for $ 400 million to $ 500 million annually.
On Monday, Trump tweeted footage of a letter he sent to WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.
In it, he informed the Director-General that “if the World Health Organization does not commit to substantial improvements within 30 days, I will make my temporary freeze of funding from the United States to the World Health Organization permanent.
And reconsider our membership in the organization.”
