Team Behind Trump Waters Down Tariff Plan

Aides to President-elect Donald Trump appear to be watering down his plans for “universal” tariffs.

According to the American newspaper The Washington Post, behind the scenes, they are currently looking at tariffs that would apply to every country but only to specific imports.

As a presidential candidate, Trump advocated 10 to 20 percent tariffs on everything imported into the United States.

However, according to sources at The Washington Post, the team behind the future president is working on tariffs that would only apply to sectors deemed critical to the economy or national security, such as defence, health care, or energy.

There are fears that universal tariffs would disrupt international trade flows and rekindle inflation.

The newspaper adds that no final decisions have been made yet. The planning for the new presidency is still in full swing. The team preparing the power transfer for Trump did not want to comment to The Washington Post.
