Chinese Expert: Statements About Vaccines Have Been Misunderstood

A major health official from China says his statements about vaccines are being misinterpreted.

 

Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Gao Fu emphasizes that it is a “complete misunderstanding” that he would have stated that Chinese vaccines offer little protection against the coronavirus.

The CEO had said at a conference on Saturday that possibilities to increase the effectiveness of vaccines that are not very effective should be looked into.

This was seen as a reference to Chinese corona vaccines, about which less data is known than about many drugs from other countries.

Gao later contradicted that explanation in an interview with the Global Times newspaper. He said he did not specifically talk about the low effectiveness of Chinese vaccines but a general problem.

The top official said he wanted to discuss how vaccines’ effectiveness can be increased by adjusting the vaccination process.
