President Zelensky Speaks to Council of Europe

The Council of Europe holds a special session on Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky addresses the council via a video link.

On Monday, the council will debate the consequences of Russia’s attack on Ukraine all day long. Russia was suspended as a member shortly after the invasion of Ukraine and later announced that it would withdraw from the council completely.

According to the Kremlin, the countries of the European Union and NATO are undermining the functioning of the council. It was founded in 1949 to promote peace, the rule of law, democracy and human rights in all countries of Europe.

The council is completely separate from the EU and has almost fifty members, including countries in the Caucasus.
